Termed “Australia’s finest modern documentarian” by film critic Andrew F Peirce. Eddie Martin is one of Australia’s leading documentary filmmakers.
His debut film JISOE was praised as “one of the best, most significant documentaries to be produced in Australia”. It won the Audience Award at the 2005 St Kilda Film Festival, screened at several international festivals and has since developed a cult following.
Eddie’s follow up LIONEL (about the legendary indigenous world champion boxer Lionel Rose) was commissioned by SBS television in 2008. The film was nominated for two AFI awards including Best Documentary Feature and a FCCA award.
In 2015 ALL THIS MAYHEM was produced in association with Vice Films and the production team behind the award winning SENNA and EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP. Eddie took home Best Direction in Documentary at the AACTA awards where the film also won Best Editing and Best Original Music Score. The film was also nominated for the esteemed Special Jury Award at The Sheffield Documentary Festival and won Best Independent Film on iTunes in the UK.
Produced by Carver Films HAVE YOU SEEN THE LISTERS? screened at the renowned Rotterdam and Hot Docs Film Festivals amongst others. The film sold to Netflix and was released globally in February 2019. It was also nominated for Best Feature Documentary FCCA and Best Editing in Documentary at the AACTA awards.
WE WERE ONCE KIDS premiered in competition at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival where it won Best Editing. The film also winning an AACTA award in the same category; it scored multiple nominations across various festivals.
In his second project with Carver Films, Eddie’s most recently completed feature documentary FIRE FRONT (based on Australia’s devastating Black Summer bushfires) is being released on streaming platform Tubi in early 2023
