Film/Television Designer

Leah Popple is a production designer working across film, television and commercials. Throughout her career she has designed numerous award-winning films with prolific directors both nationally and internationally.

Leah’s most recent credits include second collaboration with Kitty Green on her feature film, THE ROYAL HOTEL, produced by See Saw Films. The film premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival 2023 where it won the RTVE-Otra Mirada Award, it also screened in competition at the London Film Festival where it was nominated for Best Film; and Cinéfest Sudbury where it won the Outstanding International Feature Film Award.

Leah also designed Thomas M. Wright’s critically acclaimed film, THE STRANGER, for See-Saw Films and Netflix, which premiered at Festival De Cannes 2022 and won best screenplay at the AACTA Awards 2022. In addition to the film’s multiple awards and nominations, Leah earned an AACTA nomination for Best Production Design. She also designed Thomas M. Wright’s debut feature, ACUTE MISFORTUNE which premiered at Melbourne International Film Festival 2018 and won The Age Critics Award for Best Feature Film.

Leah production designed her first feature film, RUIN co directed and produced by Amiel Courtin-Wilson and Michael Cody) which premiered at Venice Film Festival 2013 and was awarded The Special Orizzonti Jury Prize for Best Feature Film. She then worked in the US on Netflix Original, CASTING JONBENET (dir. Kitty Green / prod. James Shamus and Scott Macaulay) which premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2017 and was awarded the Special Jury Prize for Original Film-Making at Montclair Film Festival and also an AACTA for Best Feature Length Documentary. Leah also production designed THE INLAND ROAD (dir. Jackie Van Beek / prod. Aaron Watson) which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival 2017.

She has also worked with director Alena Lodkina on multiple films including STRANGE COLOURS, for Arenamedia, which premiered at Venice Film Festival 2017 and PETROL, for Arenamedia, which premiered at MIFF and Locarno Film Festival 2022.
