Ian Meadows is an acclaimed actor, writer and director.
He co-wrote and acted in the AFI award nominated short Water, and co-wrote and directed the short film A PARACHUTE FALLING IN SIBERIA which won an Australian Writers Guild Award and received an AFI award nomination. Ian adapted and directed DEFENDER, a segment of Tim Winton’s THE TURNING, which was produced by Robert Connolly and AACTA nominated for Best Direction. Ian’s TV writing credits include Foxtel’s SPIRITED season 1 and 2, Channel 10’s OFFSPRING, the Fox 8 series SLIDE and ABC’s THE MOODYS.
He wrote and co-directed the play FOUR DEATHS IN THE LIFE OF RONALDO ABOK at Riverside Theatres Parramatta and his play BETWEEN TWO WAVES premiered at Griffin Theatre Company in 2012, winning Belvoir Theatre Company’s 2013 Phillip Parsons Award. Ian has appeared on stage Downstairs at Company B in LADYBIRD, a production of his company Small Things Productions, and in 2008 performed in THE MODERN INTERNATIONAL DEAD, for which he won a Glug Award for Young Performer of the Year and was nominated for a Sydney Theatre Award. Ian appeared in NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH for Company B, THE COMING WORLD at the Darlinghurst Theatre and BLUE/ORANGE for the Ensemble. He was nominated for a Greenroom award for Best Actor for his role as Trip in OTHER DESERT CITIES at the MTC and recently appeared in their production of THE WEIR. Film and TV acting credits include SCARE CAMPAIGN, 8MMM, THE MOODYS, A MOODY CHRISTMAS, RAKE, EAST WEST 101, UNDERBELLY: THE MAN WHO GOT AWAY, PAPER GIANTS: THE BIRTH OF CLEO, RUSH, PARER’S WAR, THE SHARK NET, Rowan Woods’ 3 ACTS OF MURDER and the HBO series THE PACIFIC.
Ian’s play BETWEEN TWO WAVES was commissioned and produced by Griffin Theatre Company premiering in 2012 and has had seasons in Adelaide & Auckland. In 2013, Ian won the Philip Parsons Fellowship Award and is currently under commission at Belvoir.
In 2017 Ian wrote for Season 5 of Channel Nine’s HOUSE HUSBANDS as well as Season 2 of Channel 10’s THE WRONG GIRL. Most recently Ian has written for Season 1 of Channel 10’s PLAYING FOR KEEPS and Season 1 of SBS’s ON THE ROPES. Most recently Ian has written for Every Cloud Productions and Channel 9’s revival of SEACHANGE.
