Tyson Perkins is an award-winning Arrernte & Kalkadoon director of photography based out of Sydney, Australia.
Over the course of more than a decade, Tyson has garnered a wealth of experience on a number of significant Australian productions.
Tyson’s first feature documentary as a cinematographer was the 2021 AACTA award winning feature documentary FIRESTARTER from Nel Minchin and Wayne Blair.
Tyson has made his debut in drama with the AACTA winning short form series ROBBIE HOOD for Ludo Studios and SBS with director Dylan River. He then lensed a portion of Netflix’s smash hit HEARTBREAK HIGH (2nd unit) for Fremantle Media Australia; before teaming up to collaborate again with director Dylan River on Bunya Productions MYSTERY ROAD: ORIGIN for the ABC which, at the time, was the most watched ABC drama series ever.
Tyson’s work on MYSTERY ROAD: ORIGIN garnered him the 2022 AACTA Award for Best Cinematography in a Television Series. In the same year, Tyson was the Director of Photography on the 2022 AACTA Award winning Short Film FINDING JEDDA for Tanith Glynn-Malone.
Tyson garnered his first feature film credit on Samuel Van Grinsven’s second feature film WENT UP THE HILL from Causeway Films, starring Vicky Krieps (PHANTOM THREAD, CORSAGE) and Dacre Montgomery (ELVIS, STRANGER THINGS). WENT UP THE HILL premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival and earned Perkins a 2025 AACTA Award Nomination for Best Cinematography in a Feature Film.
Recent television credits include THOU SHALT NOT STEAL, his third collaboration with writer/director Dylan River for STAN and Ludo Pictures. The series premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival and earned Tyson a 2024 AACTA Award Nomination for Best Cinematography in a Television Series. Most recently, Tyson was the cinematographer of episodes 1-6 on the upcoming series SUNNY NIGHTS for director and showrunner Trent O’Donnell, Jungle Entertainment, Echo Lake Entertainment and STAN starring Will Forte and D’Arcy Carden
