Nina Buxton is an award-winning film and television director and a 2015 graduate of the prestigious Film and Television course at The Victorian College of the Arts. She is known for her passion for telling suspenseful and intimate stories from the female perspective.
Her breakout short film WOOF! premiered at Flickerfest International Short Film Festival where she won the award for Best Editing in an Australian short film. WOOF! screened at numerous international festivals before being distributed by Flickerfest in 2016 and screening on ABC iView.
Nina’s second short film MWAH premiered in the acclaimed Accelerator program of the 65th Melbourne International Film Festival in 2017. The film screened at Palm Springs International Film Festival, the Human Rights and Arts Film Festival, Rooftop Films in New York and Byron Bay Film Festival where Nina won ‘Young Australian Filmmaker of the Year’
In 2019, Nina directed four episodes of the critically acclaimed Netflix children’s series THE INBESTIGATORS for Gristmill/ABC. Nina kicked off 2022 directing episodes of Gristmill’s drama anthology series SUMMER LOVE for ABC TV. Nina was awarded the Filmmaker Fund from Rooftop Films in New York to make her third short drama film, BUBBA premiered at the 2026 Flickerfest International Short Film Festival.
In 2022, Netflix appointed Nina as the director’s attachment to Jocelyn Moorhouse on the TV series BOYS SWALLOWS UNIVERSE.
In 2023, Nina was the director on 3 episodes of PAPER DOLLS for Paramount+; 4 episodes of PLANET LULIN for Princess Pictures and ABC TV and episodes of season 3 of the award winning and hugely popular series HEARTBREAK HIGH for Fremantle/Netflix that will air in 2026.
Nina is now in production as the director of all 6 episodes of SEPARATED AT BIRTH, for Princess Pictures and ABC TV.
