Madeleine Gottlieb is an award-winning Australian director, writer and producer whose work has screened at SXSW, TIFF, Tribeca, SeriesMania, Palm Springs, MIFF and Sydney Film Festival.
A 2023 ADG Award and 2024 AACTA Award winner, Madeleine has quickly emerged as one of Australia’s most exciting directing voices, known for elevated, emotionally charged storytelling across prestige television and film. Early in her career, Gottlieb worked in a development capacity in-house and across production on ABC series CLEVERMAN including associate producer on S2, and DIARY OF AN UBER DRIVER as script coordinator and producer assistant.
Most recently, Gottlieb has set up, directed and executive produced all six episodes of the ABC/BBC neo-noir mystery series TREASURE AND DIRT for Easy Tiger. The series stars Michael Dorman and Liv Hewson.
Prior, Gottlieb directed six episodes of THE TWELVE: CAPE ROCK KILLER for Warner Bros, Easy Tiger and Foxtel, earning an AACTA nomination for Best Direction as part of the critically acclaimed series starring Sam Neill.
Additional television credits include set up director on the SBS anthology series EROTIC STORIES, which premiered at SXSW Sydney and received five AACTA Award nominations; and the award-winning SBS Digital Originals series LATECOMERS, which screened in competition at SeriesMania and won both the AACTA and ADG Awards for Best Online Series.
Gottlieb’s acclaimed short films include SNARE, which premiered in competition at SXSW before screening at Tribeca, Palm Springs and MIFF; and YOU AND ME, BEFORE AND AFTER, which premiered at MIFF and TIFF and received AACTA and ADG nominations.
Drawn to elevated genre storytelling, Madeleine’s work often explores family, identity, feminism, queerness and contemporary masculinity. She is currently developing a slate of feature and television projects across Australia and internationally, including her original dramedy series TEETHING which is in late-stage development with producers Mad Ones Films. She serves as creator, lead writer and director.
