Born and raised around the beautiful mountain landscape of New Zealand’s South Island. Kieran developed his eye for photography from a young age after discovering the wonders of his father’s Hi-8 camcorder. Now based in Australia, Kieran has worked extensively internationally as a cinematographer and has photographed numerous feature films, commercials, and music videos.
Most recently, Kieran shot the television series POPULATION 11, directed by Trent O’Donnel, Ben Young and Helena Brooks, for Jungle Entertainment and Stan.
Kieran’s feature credits include CARNIFEX, TERMINUS, SKINFORD, and SKINFORD: CHAPTER TWO which have screened on platforms including Netflix, Stan, and SBS. Kieran’s first feature film was the Vietnamese thriller DUONG DUA, which saw him win Best Cinematography at the Vietnamese Film Festival.
His short film work has been screened at numerous prestigious festivals (Clermont-Ferrand, Palm Springs, Sydney Festival, MIFF, St Kilda) as well as seen him gaining recognition at the NZCS and ACS awards. In 2021 he won the top prizes, Ross Wood Snr ACS Award and Golden Tripod for his work on the short film SOULMATE as well as the Best Cinematography award at Flickerfest.
For television, he has most recently completed photography on SAFE HOME, a four part drama series produced by Imogen Banks and Kindling Pictures, and directed by Stevie Cruz-Martin for SBS. He has also worked as 2nd unit DP on the BBC and NBC TV series, THE LUMINARIES, starring Eva Green, Eve Hewson, and Himesh Patel.
In 2020 Kieran was the first Australasian to be nominated for Best Cinematography at the illustrious MTV VMA Awards for his work on OLD ME for 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER. He also worked on the music videos that won the ARIA Best Music Video Award in 2019 and 2020 and has shot videos for internationally recognised artists including AC/DC, Keith Urban, Flume, Guy Sebastian, and Amy Shark.
