Peter England received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Hons.) from UNSW, 1986 and a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Design from NIDA, 1994. In 1997 Peter was awarded the Mike Walsh travelling Fellowship. He has since won multiple awards for his Scenic Designs including: Helpmann Award for Best Set Design in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2013; Australian Production Design Guild award for best Set Design 2013; Green Room Award for Best Opera Design in 1998 and 2002 and a Green Room Award for Best Dance Design in 2005. In 2019 Peter received an Outer Critics Circle Award, a Drama Desk Award, and a Tony Award nomination for his Set and Projection design work on KING KONG – ALIVE ON BROADWAY.
Peter has designed a lot of event and theatrical productions, some notable ones include; KING KONG – ALIVE ON BROADYWAY (Global Creatures, NYC and Australia 2013, 2018); WALKING WITH DINOSAURS – THE ARENA SPECTACULAR (Global Creatures and the BBC); SWEENEY TODD, SIMON BOCCANEGRA, LA BOHEME and MADAMA BUTTERFLY (Opera Australia); ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE (Victorian Opera); BLOODLAND, TOT MOM, WOMAN IN MIND, VICTORY, THE VIRGIN MIM, THE SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL, BETRAYAL and THE JUNGLE (Sydney Theatre Company); HAMLET, RICHARD III and TITUS ANDRONICUS (The Shakespeare Theatre Company, Washington DC); ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA (Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company); FIRE, MATHINNA, BOOMERANGE, UNAIPON, BUSH, WALKABOUT, SKIN and FISH (Bangarra Dance Theatre); AESTHETIC ARREST, AMALGAMATE and RITE OF SPRING (The Australian Ballet); MULAN (Sydney Dance Company and Shanghai City Dance, China); MAN OF LA MANCHA and FOOTLOOSE (Gordon Frost Organisation+SEL); UNIVERSAL PLAYGROUND (Adelaide Festival of Arts); SYDNEY HANDOVER CEREMONY (Co-Designer) (1996 Atlanta Olympics Closing Ceremony); AWAKENINGS (Sydney 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremony) and for THE CITY OF SYDNEY he was Production Designer of three New Year’s Eve Celebrations on and around Sydney Harbour, leading up to and including MILLENNIUM.
