Jessie Oldfield and Adam Murfet are an award winning directing duo known for their distinctive visual style and sharp instincts in drama and comedy across television, film and commercials.
Jessie and Adam directed episodes across all three seasons of Netflix and Fremantle Australia’s acclaimed reboot of HEARTBREAK HIGH (2022), which won the 2023 International Emmy and the AACTA Award for Best Drama Series in 2025. For its third and final season, they returned as set-up directors, directing both the opening and closing episodes.
Their move into narrative television began with the comedy series WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS, developed by Jessie and Adam through ABC’s Fresh Blood Pilot Season in 2019. After winning Fresh Blood, the pilot attracted Netflix’s attention and was commissioned as a six-part ABC and Netflix co-production, released globally in 2021.
Partners professionally and personally, Jessie and Adam bring two perspectives into one clear creative vision, working as a single directing unit. Drawn to layered characters, their collaborative process brings a depth and emotional richness to stories that feel deeply human, with a distinctive balance of drama and comedy.
Alongside their narrative work, Jessie and Adam built an award-winning commercial career after beginning in art-house fashion film, directing campaigns for brands including Adidas, Samsung, Renault, Virgin, Country Road and Kathmandu.
Their work has earned multiple accolades from the Australian Directors’ Guild, including Best Direction in a TV Commercial, alongside nominations for Best Direction of a TV Comedy (WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS) and Best Direction of a TV Drama (HEARTBREAK HIGH, Season 2).
