Noora is an Iranian-Australian writer/director based in Melbourne. She holds a Bachelor of Design in Architecture from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Masters in Film & Television from the Victorian College of the Arts.

To date, Noora has written/directed three narrative shorts about the Iranian Diaspora that have competed at film festivals worldwide, these include, THE PHOENIX (SIMORGH), WATERFALL and 17 YEARS AND A DAY.

Noora started her career making documentaries in Lebanon and Chile. In 2011, her short documentary BEIRUT, UNDER THE BRIDGE was awarded ‘Best Director Documentary’ and ‘Special Jury Prize Documentary’ at the 11th Beirut International Film Festival and in 2017, her mid-length documentary, CASA ANTÚNEZ (ANTÚNEZ HOUSE) competed in the Official Selection of the Sheffield Doc/Fest (New Talent Award Nominee).

In 2015, Noora was mentored by Iranian master filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami in his Barcelona workshop. Her short HIGH TIDE was selected in Kiarostami’s top 10 films to screen at international film festivals. Later that year, her graduate short, THE PHOENIX (Simorgh) was nominated for an Australian Director’s Guild (ADG) Award and was selected for Melbourne International Film Festival’s prestigious Accelerator Lab.

In 2016, she completed a screenwriting mentorship with Cannes-award winning auteur Michael Rowe as well as an ADG/Screen Australia director’s attachment with Emma Freeman on the Matchbox Pictures/Netflix Series SECRET CITY. In 2019, her episodic writing credits included Matchbox Pictures/ABC TV Series THE HEIGHTS (Series 2) and Thumper Pictures’ Sci-Fi Series SECOND TIME.

In 2020, Noora’s latest short film, TÂM screened in competition at CinefestOZ Film Festival and MIFF 68 ½. She is developing her debut feature film with Australian producer Vincent Sheehan (THE HUNTER) and a project with American producer Gary Foster (SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE). Noora is currently being mentored by Luke Davies, Oscar-nominated screenwriter of LION as part of the Australians in Film (AiF)/Screen Australia – ‘Mentor LA’ program.
