In late June 2015 Mike Finch finished up a 17 year tenure as Artistic Director at CIRCUS OZ, Australia’s internationally famous contemporary circus company.
Mike Finch is a graduate of Charles Sturt University’s innovative Theatre/Media course in Bathurst. Mike has worked in shearing sheds, as a pastry-cook, as a juggler, acrobat, associate lecturer and director of large-scale theatre and circus. He co-founded physical theatre company PRECARIOUS and the subsequent CIRCUS MONOXIDE, touring Australia in a double-decker bus.
In 1997, at age 27, Mike was offered the job of Artistic Director and co-CEO of CIRCUS OZ. During his term he was responsible for creating or overseeing all of CIRCUS OZ’S work, annually touring across Australia and the world, from Arnhem Land to Broadway. His role involved curating the permanent ensemble, facilitating innovation and creative development, directing or co-directing all shows, and collaborating on the expansion of the company and its continuation as one of Australia’s best-loved exports. Mike was a central figure in the establishment of the brand-new CIRCUS OZ home base in Collingwood, Melbourne, arguably the most exciting circus hub in the southern hemisphere. Mike stepped down from CIRCUS OZ in 2015 to pursue creative consulting work, festival direction and other exciting projects.
Mike has also recently entered the corporate speaking arena, sharing many amazing insights from his career which can be seamlessly tailored to suit each client.
