In 2012, Matthew made his debut as writer, director and producer with the short film JULIANJULIAN was accepted into the Generation K plus section of The 62nd International Berlin Film Festival and went on to win The Crystal Bear for Best Short Film. JULIAN went on to win The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts AACTA Award for Best Short Fiction Film.

As an Academy winner JULIAN was subsequently selected from over a hundred Academy’s from around the world as one of seven short films to screen at Les Cesar Academie Des Arts Et Techniques Du Cinema’s Golden Night of The World’s Best Short Films of the Year in Paris.JULIAN competed in over 30 International festivals, winning over a dozen awards. THE AMBER AMULET, Matthew’s second short film as writer/director/producer made its World Premiere in the Generation Kplus section of The 63rd International Berlin Film Festival. It too went on to win the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film.

Other awards include The Australian Writers Guild AWGIE Award for Best Screenplay in a Short film, The Audience Choice Award at TIFF Kids and The Oscar Qualifying Grand Prix for Best Short Film from The Heartland Film Festival.Matthew participated in The Accelerator program presented by Screen Australia and The Melbourne International Film Festival in 2013. A program designed to assist up and coming filmmaker’s transition from short to feature films.

In another initiative from Screen Australia and The Australian Directors Guild to assist upcoming filmmakers Matthew was selected as a Directors Attachment on Robert Connelly’s new feature film PAPER PLANES. Matthew has recently joined the stable of directors at Jungleboys and has a feature film in development with Goalpost Pictures.

Matthew has subsequently been working in network television where he has directed drama for Channel 7, Channel 10 and the ABC.

Most recently, Matthew has directed all six episodes of the upcoming DIARY OF AN UBER DRIVER, a dramedy series for Revlover, ABC and All3Media.
