Glenn Butcher
Glenn co-founded THE CASTANET CLUB in 1982 and appeared as the charismatic lead singer and front person, Lance Norton. The band played live in every state of Australia and overseas, including the Edinburgh Festival. Glenn starred in the band’s feature length film, THE CASTANET CLUB... A MOVIE YOU CAN DANCE TO.
Well known as Darren Purvis (son of Shirley) from ABC’s THE BIG GIG, Glenn’s other television credits include A COUNTRY PRACTICE, THE MONEY OR THE GUN, FAST FORWARD, GOOD NEWS WEEK NITE LITE, WHITE COLLAR BLUE and the award winning series KATH AND KIM.
In 1991 Glenn co-directed and starred in Stephen Abbott’s THE HEADBUTT for Belvoir Street Theatre. Glenn also worked as Musical Director and Composer in another of Stephen Abbott’s plays, THE COAST MONGRELS at the Hunter Valley Theatre Company in 1992.
From 1992-1997 Glenn was a regular cast member on the highly successful television comedy series FULL FRONTAL for the 7 Network, which won four Logies during that time. Glenn was also a regular presenter on ABC’s PLAYSCHOOL during 1997-1999 and appeared in the feature films SOFT FRUIT and FAT PIZZA, THE MOVIE.
Glenn played the role of Brad Majors in Nigel Triffitt’s production of THE NEW ROCKY HORROR SHOW in 1992, a role he revived in 1996 and again in 1998. He appeared at the Sydney Opera House in 1998 playing Buddy in Stephen Sondheim’s FOLLIES for the Producers, and again in 2000 in THE VENETIAN TWINS as part of the Olympic Arts Festival. Glenn also performed the role of Amos Hart in IMG’s acclaimed production of CHICAGO, touring Australia and Asia in 1999-2000.
In 2002 Glenn starred in David Atkins acclaimed production of SINGIN' IN THE RAIN for Australian audiences, also touring to Singapore and Hong Kong.
Glenn is currently starring in DUSTY, a musical about the life and songs of Dusty Springfield, which had its world premiere in Melbourne in 2006.
